In today's modern resurgence of wet-shaving, many people love to use vintage razors to get the perfect shave. And while vintage Gillette, Gem or Schick razors can make for excellent shavers, chances are they need a little help to return to their former glory.
That's why we developed the practice of properly replating vintage razors who's original factory finish was beyond polishing or repair. What exactly does "properly plating" a vintage razor mean? After working on hundreds of razors, here's what it means to us:
The Razor REVAMP™ Process
This is a comprehensive cleaning, resurfacing and re-plating service designed to give the best possible results for vintage shaving razors that have seen better days. The costs listed below are the same for any razor, not just the types pictured. Keep in mind that this is not just a 're-plate' service. It's equivalent to the time-consuming job of sanding a piece of wood before a stain is applied. By preparing the razors prior to plating and restoring them after they return, results can be as nice as those pictured here.
All razors are first disassembled, cleaned and stripped of all soap scum and original plating. All areas of the razor are then resurfaced; removing pitting, scratches and minor dents that could have formed over the years. At this time, a mechanical inspection is given to the razor to make sure it opens/closes and holds a blade properly and any needed repairs are performed. We then plate the razor in the desired material of your choice (including Rhodium, Gold, Chrome, Silver or Nickel). Before the razor is ready for you to shave with again, we clean off any residue from the plating solution and give a final buff and polish to the surfaces. Next, any specialized paint such as numbers, indicators, or color-coded tips are restored to "like-new" factory specifications. Razors are then re-assembled, sterilized in an ultrasonic cleaner, packaged with a Certificate of Revamp™ and will return to you in Shave-Ready condition.
